I’m a Graphic and Type designer

Untitled_bot Issue 2
Untitled Issue 2 is the third issue of the magazine developed as part of the Design Communication 2 course at ISIA Faenza, led by Professor Alessandro Gori.
This issue explores the field of robotics and its connections with the worlds of art and design. My contribution focuses on the automaton, regarded as the ancestor of the modern robot and android, through a research project tracing its evolution from its earliest references in Homeric literature to the Belle Époque.

Untitled Issue 2 is the third issue of the magazine developed as part of the Design Communication 2 course at ISIA Faenza, led by Professor Alessandro Gori. The issue explores the relationship between robotics, art, and design through a collection of research projects and contributions investigating the evolution of artificial machines. My contribution focuses on the automaton, considered an ancestor of the modern robot and android, through a research project tracing its history from antiquity to the Belle Époque. The research begins with Homeric literature, where Hephaestus’ mechanical maidens are described as anthropomorphic beings capable of autonomous movement and a form of knowledge. From there, the investigation follows the development of automata through Greek and Roman culture, the Arab world, and the European Renaissance, examining figures and devices associated with Ctesibius, Philo of Byzantium, Hero of Alexandria, Al-Jazari, and Leonardo da Vinci. The research highlights how the desire to construct artificial beings capable of acting autonomously predates modern robotics by centuries, connecting mythology, engineering, entertainment, and scientific experimentation.
