Hangul Type
Hangul Type is my first type design project, developed during the Type Design course with Professor Antonio D\u2019Elisiis. The typeface explores the visual language of the Korean Hangul alphabet, translating some of its distinctive formal characteristics into the Latin writing system. The research began by observing and extracting Hangul forms through brushwork, using the Korean *but* as a tool for experimentation, before digitising and adapting these shapes into Latin letters. The resulting typeface creates a dialogue between two writing systems, balancing the expressive qualities of Hangul with the recognizability, readability, and functionality of Latin typography.

Hangul Type is my first type design project, developed during the Type Design course with Professor Antonio D\u2019Elisiis. The project began with an observation of the Korean Hangul alphabet and the exploration of how some of its distinctive formal characteristics could be translated into the Latin writing system, rather than simply reproduced as a visual style. The research started by observing and extracting recurring and characteristic Hangul forms, initially explored through the use of the traditional Korean but brush. This manual process made it possible to identify shapes, terminals, and relationships between positive and negative space, which were then digitised and used as the basis for constructing the Latin characters. Throughout the development, these forms were progressively simplified and softened to adapt them to the characteristics of Latin typography, while preserving certain references to the original writing system, such as serifs and terminals.The result is a typeface that brings two different writing systems into dialogue, translating Hangul\u2019s formal qualities into a recognisable, readable, and functional Latin structure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
